While looking over the essay requirements for UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism:
Journalists abide by word limits. There is a strict 750 word limit for the statement of purpose and a 750 word limit for the personal history statement.
Both should be written with quality, not quantity, in mind.
Oh, word counts.

I know this awesome trick for getting around word count limits... if you have two words-- such as "You" and "are"-- you can sneak them into one word with this radical "apostrophe" gizmo. "You are" becomes "you're"! If you do that with every two words, it's like the word count limit is expanded to 1500!!! That's what'I call'awesome!
:) Good'luck, fly'girl.
