There is something about all of them, a strength of character, that I cannot quite express. I like to think of it as the good things in the British character without such a rigid class system. Even their accent is British without the annoying condescension. The young Shona gentleman (from Greendale, no less) speaks with the most precise British accent of all. All the Rhodies I know have made new lives in the US or in South Africa. One woman living in South Africa calls her gated community and indeed her life in South Africa "a five-star prison." She has distinguished herself in her scientific field, as have three of the others who now live in the US. Maybe adversity really does build character. <BR/>I admit I always admired Ian Douglas Smith for standing up to the socialist regime in Britain. I also admit that his war brought unnecessary death and destruction to many Africans in the country. Of course, Bobby Mugabe has killed more Africans and destroyed more of the country than Smith ever could have.RichardChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03323395002515924641noreply@blogger.com
